Bikes and Equipment

Here at Biking in Turkey we know that it’s not always practical or possible to bring your own bike, so we carry a stock of high quality road and trail-worthy bikes, helmets, accessories and spare parts for you to hire.

We are currently running Trek Roscoe 8 trail MTB’s for singletrack riding. These have 140mm travel, dropper posts and a trail capable spec. The smooth trails of Cappadocia do not really warrant a full suspension bikes… For the road tours we prefer to use Trek FX hybrid bikes although we also have a small selection of road bikes, available on demand.

We also have a small fleet of Trek Powerfly e-bikes, fitted with the Bosch Performance CX drive system. Hiring an e-bike is a great way to ride further, and see more, without the hardship of long, steep uphills to wear you out!

You can also hire our bikes even if you’re not taking a tour- contact our Goreme office for details. All bikes have sealant in the tubes, and many are running tubeless, so punctures are thankfully minimal.

We also have a fully equipped bike workshop- let us know if you need any spare parts and we’ll do our best to help!

Please note- if you are having problems with one of our hire bikes, please tell your guide BEFORE something breaks, so that they can take the necessary adjustment measures. In case of crash damage or breakages caused by negligence, clients will be responsible to cover the cost of replacement parts themselves!

Bikes are carried with Thule 9104 rear racks on small group tours but for larger groups we use our custom Tako bike trailer pictured above. This trailer easily carries up to 12 bikes safely and securely and is one of its kind in Turkey- designed and made exclusively for Middle Earth Travel.

What to Bring on Mountain Biking Tours:

In addition to sensible biking clothes (at least long sleeved top is recommended for thorny and overgrown sections), good quality flat or SPD pedal compatible biking shoes, gloves (full finger gloves recommended) and pads (optional but not essential), you should also bring a good quality helmet (unless you are hiring a bike from us, in which case we will supply your helmet). If you choose to bring your own bike you must bring spare tubes, pump, tool kit and specialist replacement parts such as rear mech hangers! If you don’t come equipped to maintain your own bike and something does go wrong, it will not be our responsibility to provide you with another bike and you will need to pay any associated costs. Be prepared! Please note that if you wish your hire bike to be equipped with SPD pedals you should select that option on the Booking Form.

You should also bring the following: *Small rucksack / Camelback (for carrying lunch, spares, pump etc) *Personal first aid kit *Mobile phone (must be unlocked for use abroad- essential to be able contact us in an emergency) *Turkish phrasebook (most locals don’t speak English) *Water bottle / Camelback *High factor sun cream *Sunglasses (biking specific glasses are best) *Toolkit and spares (unless you’re hiring one of our bikes).

Please Note:

Bikes and other equipment hired from us are your responsibility for the full duration of the hire period and any losses, damage or repair costs caused by negligence or error will be paid for by you (at current market prices). We will only be liable for damage and breakdown caused by general wear and tear, but will make every effort to assist with any technical difficulty, however caused. You should specify your hire bike requirement in advance- in most cases we will be able to let you know the exact make, model and size of the bike before the tour starts. Our hire bikes are supplied with one water bottle, but an extra water bottle or bladder will be needed, particularly in summer where a minimum of 2 litres per person per day is required.
